Richard now owns a private consulting practice, focusing on improving governance and community partnerships.  His recent customers have included the Missouri Hospital Association, the Cancer and Chronic Disease Consortium, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, the University of Washington, Servicios de Salud Episcopales (a health system in Puerto Rico), and the World Bank.

From 1999 to 2002, Richard served as board chair for Henry Booth House, a not-for-profit health and social service agency on Chicago’s near south side.  Richard's life is greatly enriched by his boys: Brandon Carlos Bogue-Varea, 11, and Richard Alvaro Bogue-Varea, 15.
