After the Air
Force and diverse work experiences, Richard
J. Bogue acquired
a B.A. in English, an M.A. in Rhetoric
and Communication Theory, and a Ph.D. in
Communication.
He emphasized direct observation,
interviewing, case studies, and surveys,
for understanding human behavior in
political, organizational, and family
systems.
He taught intercultural,
political, organizational and interpersonal
communication at the University of South
Florida, la Universidad de las Americas,
the University of Texas and the
University of Illinois-Chicago.
At Governors State University,
he has taught health policy and
politics.
Richard began working for the American Hospital Association’s Health Research and Educational Trust, in 1988. While with the Trust, Richard led a series of demonstration and research projects, most on the theme of community-responsive health system improvement. These programs attracted over $10 million in grant funds. In 1997, Richard became Senior Director of Governance Programs with the AHA. His main goal was to link health care leadership strategies tighter to community health.
Richard
now owns a private consulting practice,
focusing on improving governance and
community partnerships. His recent
customers have included the Missouri
Hospital Association, the Cancer and
Chronic Disease Consortium, the
Association for Healthcare Philanthropy,
the University of Washington, Servicios
de Salud Episcopales (a health system in
Puerto Rico), and the World Bank.
From 1999 to 2002, Richard served as
board chair for Henry Booth House, a
not-for-profit health and social service
agency on Chicago’s near south side.
Richard's
life is greatly enriched by his boys: Brandon Carlos Bogue-Varea, 11, and Richard
Alvaro Bogue-Varea, 15.
